Zwischen zwei Ufern - Szenen einer deutsch-kanadischen Begegnung

Between Two Shores (Zwischen zwei Ufern) - Seven Scenes. 75 Years. Two Countries.

A show marking 75 years of German-Canadian diplomatic relations, Zwischen zwei Ufern is an explorative work that follows the people, stories, and shared histories that connect Germany and Canada.

The play brings together seven scenes, shaped by letters, farewells, online chats, and family conversations, and spans the years from postwar Germany to the 2026 FIFA World Cup Final, moving between humour, seriousness, and unexpected moments of personal reflection, these stories explore cultural differences and similarities, human connection, and their implications on the meaning of home.

Written and directed by Erol Boran, Associate Professor at the University of Toronto’s Department of Germanic Languages and Literatures, the production is presented as a dramatic reading by 11 students from GER340H, German through scene work and dramatic readings.

Boran has over 30 years of theater experience, including work with an English-language theater group at the University of Würzburg and as an actor at the Jewish Theatre in Thessaloniki. Between Two Shores is his eighth theatrical production to be presented publicly in Toronto.

Join us at Toronto’s historic and iconic Monarch Tavern for an intimate evening of storytelling that celebrates the connections that bridge our two countries and invites us to reflect on the many ways we define home.
